The First World War Memorial for the firm of Robert Jowitt and Sons of Bradford is now located in the Bradford Industrial Museum. The Museum occupies the former Moorside Mill at Haigh Fold, Eccleshill. The above memorial is one of six war memorials from various sites around the city of Bradford, displayed on the staircase at the south-east corner of the Museum.

The works of Robert Jowitt & Sons was originally located at 153 Sunbridge Road, Bradford.

14 names are commemorated on the memorial as having lost their lives in the First World War.

One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorial.

Private John William Smith. 27470. 10th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 19 September 1916. Aged 33.
Born Bradford, Enlisted Bradford.
Buried A.I.F. BURIAL GROUND, FLERS.
(SDGW gives Regtl No as 7470; GH Gazette d/b gives no as 27470)

From the 1911 Census, a John William Smith aged 28 (born 1883), married, born Bradford, worked as a Woolcomber (Machine). He and his wife lived at 89 Duncan Street, Bradford. Sunbridge Road and Duncan Street are not too far apart.)
