The War Memorial for Barkisland (Calderdale)

The Barkisland War Memorial is situated at the junction of Saddleworth Road and Scammonden Road opposite Christ Church.

The names of 37 from the First World War and 10 men from the Second World War are commemorated, including two men who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.

Private William Henry Broadbent. 33278. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Formerly 3499 Yorks Hussars. Killed 27 August 1917.
Enlisted Halifax, Resided Barkisland (Nr Halifax).
Buried ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY.

Private George Herbert Brook. 38105. 5th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late John Frederick and Ann Brook, of Lightcliffe Royal, Barkisland, Halifax; husband of Jane Hannah Brook, of Jagger Green Dean, Holywell Green, Halifax, Yorks. Killed 28 March 1918. Aged 34.
Born Barkesland (Yorks), Enlisted Halifax.
Commemorated on Panel 31 and 32, POZIERES MEMORIAL.
