The War Memorial for Aylesbury is located at the North end of the Market Square, Aylesbury.

The memorial is a Cross of Sacrifice with a sword on the front face rises from the centre of a low wall which bears a nowy-headed plaque with a Maltese cross. The wall also has inset bronze name panels. The area is surrounded by low chain link fence. Street lamps rise from each each end of wall. The lamp bases are ornamented with acanthus leaf and the shafts wreathed in laurels

234 names are commemorated for those who lost their lives in the First World War.
108 names are commemorated for those who lost their lives in the Second World War, together with one from a recent conflict.

One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on this memorial.


Private Victor John Gillions. 35630. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 4009 R Berkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. Minnie Gillions, of 47, Queen St., Aylesbury, Bucks. Killed 27 May 1918. Aged 19.
Born Tottenham (Middx), Enlisted Aylesbury (Bucks).
