The War Memorial in Ashington's Memorial Garden- 1

Maley
The War Memorial in Ashignton's Memorial Garden is a sculpture of the 'Unknown Soldier' created by sculptor Tom Maley in 2001. The sculpture is turned through 90 degrees and placed on a new pedestal of brick with shallow coping set on two low square steps which in turn sit on a raised circular platform. The plaques commemorating the names of those killed in the two World wars are set in shallow alcoves. A new Memorial recognising conflicts after 1945 is also centrally located next to the War Memorial.
858 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World
War, and 758 in the Second World War.
A transcription of the names (surname, initial and regiment served in) is
provided on the North
East War Memorials Project website.
