The War Memorial for Adlington is set in a Memorial Garden, located between the Library and both the Methodist Church and St. Paul's Church.

The First World War dedication and commemoration plaque is a tall rectangular cast bronze plaque installed on the rear wall between pillars. Two First World War addendum cast plaques are situated on the low wall connecting the main structure to the left-hand balustrade.

The two cast nowy-headed Second World War plaques are installed on the low walls between the pillars and the main structure whilst a similar plaque, bearing the Second World War addendum, is on the low wall connecting the main structure to the right-hand balustrade.

169 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War, and 61 in the Second World War.

1 soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorial.


Private Frederick Tootell Wilcocks. 19118. 8th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of the late Constance Emily Wilcocks, of Leeds. Killed 19 October 1917. Aged 32.
Born Addlington (Lancs), Enlisted Leeds.
Buried BEDFORD HOUSE CEMETERY.
