The Whitby Mission and Seafarer's Centre is in Haggersgate, Whitby. The centre includes a cafe which is open to the public, as well as a chapel and offices.
At the foot of the stairs which lead to the upstairs rooms hangs a Roll of Honour for the First World War. Nearly all of the names shown on this brass plaque are those of seafarers. However, at the foot of the plaque are two names from the Mission Choir, one of whom served in the Yorkshire Regiment.

Private John William Nendick, 17280. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John William and Elizabeth Nendick, of Whitby; husband of Mrs. E. L. Nendick, of 138, Church St., Whitby, Yorks. A member of Seamens' Institute. Killed 7 November 1918. Aged 37.
Born Whitby, Enlisted Whitby.
Buried BELLIGNIES CHURCHYARD (France).
