The War Memorial for Stalybridge

The Stalybridge War Memorial is found at the North end of Trinity
Street by the Victoria Bridge.
The memorial consists of two crescent walls between two pedestals each 10ft
high, and each surmounted by a sculpted group. The pedestals are themselves
flanked by crescent wing walls bearing tablets with regiments and names.
648 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War.
One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on this memorial.
Private Ernest Jones. 242929. 12th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of the late Richard and Sarah Ann Jones. Killed 2 October 1917. Aged 36.
Born Stalybridge (Cheshire), Enlisted Chester, Resided Stalybridge.
Commemorated on Pier and Face 3A & 3D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
