The War Memorial for Radwinter (Essex)
Photo : Edward Nicholl
The War Memorial for Radwinter (Essex) stands in the churchyard of Radwinter's parish church, - fairly close to the entrance porch of the church.
Eighteen names from the First World War are commemorated on this memorial, including one man who served with the Yorkshire Regiment. Six names are shown for men who fell in the Second World War, though inside the church there is a kneeler which commemorates seven men who lost their lives in the Second World War.
In the churchyard there is a burial of a soldier of the Essex Regiment, though the grave can be considerably hidden by undergrowth.
Further photos of the memorials and the church itself can be found on http://www.flickr.com/photos/grey-panther/sets/72157635079260149/.

(The slope is NOT due to the camera being held off the level, - the memorial
itself is leaning about 2 degrees off the vertical.)

In "Radwinter's First World War" by Michael Southgate (published
privately), the "G Richardson" on the Radwinter Memorial is stated
to be;-
Private G Richardson, 27090, of the 2nd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment
who was killed on 28 March 1918. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Richardson;
husband of Rose Richardson, of 20, Mill Lane, Ashdon Rd., Saffron Walden,
Essex. Aged 23. Buried NAMPS-AU-VAL BRITISH CEMETERY.
Unfortunately, this particular G Richardson is almost certainly NOT the soldier
commemorated on the Radwinter War Memorial.
The address of his widow, Ashdon Road, is in the centre of Saffron Walden
itself. There is an Ashdown Road close to Radwinter, and this is
probably where the error occurs.
Radwinter End, where Private George Richardson, 242490, 4th Battalion
Yorkshire Regiment lived is about 1.5 miles North East from Radwinter's church.
Ashdon Road in Saffron Walden is about 5 miles West of Radwinter's Church.
G Richardson is commemorated on both the main town memorial in Saffron Walden, as well as on the War Memorial in the parish church. This particular "G Richardson" will almost certainly be the Northamptonshire Regiment soldier.
