The War Memorial in Port Clarence carries names for both the First and Second World Wars, and is inscribed;-

"HAVERTON HILL AND PORT CLARENCE
WAR MEMORIAL.
IN PROUD AND LOVING MEMORY
OF THE MEN OF THIS DISTRICT

Private Thomas Nichols Archer. 13421. 12th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John Jones Archer and Harriet Ann Archer, of 10, Young St., Haverton Hill, Durham. Native of Middlesbro', Yorks. Died 17 June 1918. Aged 38.
Born Middlesbrough, Enlisted Middlesbrough.
Buried ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY.

Private Robert Britton. 39469. 14th (2nd Barnsley) Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment. Formerly (24058) Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Ellen Britton, of 4, Lowthian Terrace, Port Clarence, Middlesbrough. Died 2 July 1917. Aged 22.
Buried DUISANS BRITISH CEMETERY, ETRUN.
Born Stockton, Enlisted Richmond, Resided Stockton.

Private John Carr. 13138. 9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late Owen and Bridget Carr. Native of Middlesbro', Yorks. Killed 10 July 1916. Aged 33.
Born Port Clarence (Middlesbrough), Enlisted Middlesbrough.

Private Thomas Carr. 7910. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late John and Margaret Carr. Died 22 October 1914. Aged 28.

Private Frederick Copeland. 16273. 7th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mr. F. and Mrs. E. A. Copeland, of 1, Railway Terrace, Haverton Hill, Middlesbrough. Native of Stockton-on-Tees. Died 19 September 1915. Aged 19.

Private John Hanna. 11004. 9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of James and Alice Hanna, of 25, New Cottages, Port Clarence, Middlesbrough. Also served at Gallipoli. Died 8 August 1916. Aged 30
