  Private Frederick James NEWMAN, 41999.

2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 161814 RFA. Son of Fred. Newman, of 11, Pretoria Terrace, Alstone, Cheltenham. Killed 29 September 1918. Aged 21.
Enlisted Cheltenham, Resided Alston.
Buried DUISANS BRITISH CEMETERY, ETRUN.

Private Fred NICHOLSON, 148262.

  Private Fred NICHOLSON, 148262.

Private Fred Nicholson was originally with the 9th Battalion (service number = 16766).
He was with the 9th Battalion when it arrived in Boulogne on 27 August 1915.
Private Nicholson was wounded in action with the Battalion, thought to be on 1 January 1916 when the Battalion was first involved in a significant action.

On recovering from his wounds he was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps, with whom he served the rest of the war.
