The
First World War Memorial Plaque in the Perse School, Cambridge

The Perse School, Cambridge, was founded in 1615 by Stephen Perse. The school is a fee-charging, academically selective, independent secondary co-educational day school in Cambridge, with over 1100 pupils aged from 3 to 18 situated on several sites. The school's website provides further information on the school.
A memorial plaque, with names painted on an oaken board, commemorates 89 past pupils of the school. These names, together with brief biographies, can be found on the Roll of Honour website.
One Officer who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on this memorial.
2nd Lieutenant Joel Jacobs. 5th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of Michael and Pearl Jacobs, of "Ffynonfa," Park Drive, Swansea.
Killed 20 July 1916. Aged 21.
Buried LA LAITERIE MILITARY CEMETERY.
| **Lieutenant Jacobs was one of 16 soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment who are commemorated in the British Jewry Book of Honour. Of the 50,000 Jews who served with the British and Colonial Forces during the First World War, 2,324 lost their lives and are commemorated in this book. |
