The War Memorial for Patrick Brompton is located in the churchyard of St. Patrick's, close to the boundary wall with the main road.

The memorial is a simple obelisk, commemorating 11 names from the First World War. The memorial is dedicated

TO THE GLORIOUS DEAD WHO REST IN THE DEEP SEA AND MANY LANDS HAVING GIVEN THEIR LIVES THAT WE MAY LIVE IN FREEDOM AND IN PEACE / 1914-1918

One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on this memorial.


Private John Thomas Brown. 20622. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Joseph and Ellen Brown, of Patrick Brompton, Bedale, Yorks. Killed 8 July 1916. Aged 23.
Born Crakehall, Enlisted Leyburn, Resided Patrick Brompton (Bedale).
