The War Memorial in the Church of St. Martin's, Overstrand (Norfolk)

The church of St Martin, Overstrand is home to three separate forms of memorial
to the fallen of WW1 and WW2. Outside in the churchyard is the War Memorial,
while inside the names are carved on a wooden panel. Beneath the panel there
are two bound books, one for each conflict.
36 men who lost their lives in the First World War are commemorated on these
memorials, and 12 men from the Second World War.
We are extrememly grateful to Moominpappa06 for permission to use his photographs of the memorials in the church.
One soldier of the Yorkshire Regiment is amongst those commemorated.
Private Wallace James Grace. 33371. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
Formerly 4188 Suffolk Regt. Killed 31 July 1917.
Born Bedford, Enlisted Ipswich, Resided Overstrand (Cromer, Norfolk).
Commemorated on Panel 33, YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL.
(Moominpappa06 provides some brief biographical information on Private Grace. There is conjecture as to why he is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, as the 2nd Battalion were fighting in France at the time. Reading the 2nd Battalion War Diary no casualties are reported for 31 July, though there had been casualties on the previous day as a result of a German aircraft bombing their position. The 2nd Battalion were located, at the time, at Guillemont on the Somme.)
