The Normanton War Memorial is located in Normanton Park. The memorial is dedicated as follows;-

"THIS MONUMENT IS ERECTED TO PERPETUATE THE MEMORY OF THE MEN OF NORMANTON WHO IN THE GREAT WAR
1914 - 1919 FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT DYING IN THE CAUSE OF HUMANITY THAT HONOUR MIGHT LIVE.
GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS.
IN MEMORY OF THE FALLEN THEIR NAMES ARE INSCRIBED ON THE ROLL OF HONOUR WHICH IS DEPOSITED IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBER.
AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM."

More recently, another memorial has been erected near to the obelisk.
This consists of a stone brick gateway (12 high) with flanking walls built at an inward facing angle , with mounted plaques , WW1 left and WW2 right. The plaques are of cast bronze and are of similar style .
T he dedication and below that the commemorations, in six columns. Inscribed is the wording "This tablet records the names of the men of Normanton who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of their country and to whose memory is dedicated"

270 names of those who lost their lives in the First World War, and 76 in the Second World War, are inscribed on the plaques.

Three soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on the Normanton War Memorial.


2nd Lieutenant Fred Eames. 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, attached to 1st/5th Battalion Essex Regiment. Son of Spencer Page Eames and Agnes Eames, of Station House, Normanton, Yorks. Died 19 September 1918. Aged 24.
Buried RAMLEH WAR CEMETERY.

Private Albert Victor Hayle. 28088. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of William and Evangeline Hayle, of 27, Station Rd., Normanton, Yorks. Died 12 April 1918. Aged 20.
Born Batley (Yorks), Enlisted Normanton.
Commemorated on Panel 4, PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL.

Private Arthur Matthews. 34491. 9th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Arthur Henry and Sarah Matthews, of Normanton. Killed 20 July 1918. Aged 19.
Born Normanton, Enlisted Pontefract, Resided Normanton.
Commemorated on the GIAVERA MEMORIAL.
