Middleton Tyas village is about 5 miles North East of Richmond, and is very close to Scotch Corner. The Memorial to the Fallen of the First World War is a brass plaque in the Church of St. Michael and All Angels.

The Memorial is inscribed;-
"To the Glorious Memory of the Men of this Parish Who Gave Their Lives in Defence of Their Country in the Great War."

, 28399. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Joseph and the late Mary Bradberry, of Middleton Tyas, Yorks; husband of Lydia Elizabeth Bradberry, of High St., Great Ayton, Yorks. Killed on 1 October 1917. Aged 36.

Private Arthur Lazenby. 34930. 9th Battalion the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, formerly 5443 the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 16 September 1916.

Private Barry M Parson. 200512. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. Sarah Parson, of The Griffin Hotel, Ingham. Died at home 25 April 1918.

Shown on the memorial, - B Parsons. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed on 25 August 1916. But there is no person of this name in either the Commonwealth War Graves Register or "Soldiers Died in the Great War", or in the Green Howards Gazette database. In the 1911 Census, Barry Parson was a Butler working at West Hall, Middleton Tyas. He enlisted at Barton, which is close to MIddleton Tyas.)

Private George Henry Winter
. 220463. 1st Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 5/3319 5th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 20 October 1918. Aged 26.
Born Thirsk (Yorks), Enlisted Scarborough, Resided Darlington.
Buried ERQUELINNES COMMUNAL CEMETERY.
(George Henry Winter was born in Thirsk in Q1 1892. From the 1901 Census his parents were Peter and Ellen.
He was initially in the 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment (No 5/3319) before transferring to the 4th Battalion (No 203203).
The Yorkshire Regiment numbers are given in the Medal Rolls Index.
The Green Howards Gazette reports him, - No 3319, as having been wounded in July/August 1916. His transfer to the 4th Battalion would have been after this, before eventually transferring to the East Yorkshire Regiment.)
