The War Memorial at Middleton St. George is a stone cross, where the dedication and commemorations are in lead lettering set into the stone. The memorial is located at the entrance to St. Laurence's Church (which appears to no longer be in use).
The memorial is at the extreme Southern end of Middleton St. George, and at the Western end of Middleton One Row, - effectively at the boundary between these two villages.

39 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War, 15 in the Second World War, and 1 in a subsequent conflict.

Of interest is that one name on the memorial is clearly remembered by his family even today. At the base of the memorial is a vase of fresh flowers, in remembrance of "Charles E Wood Killed at the Somme 1916 Aged 23. Always Remembered."
This was
Charles Edward Wood, R/15700, 11th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. Only son of Robert and Hannah Wood, of 6, Station Rd., Middleton St. George, Co. Durham. Died of wounds 4 September 1916. Aged 23.
