The Mayo Peace Park

This War Memorial is located at Lannagh Road, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. The Mayo Peace Park is a registered charity in the Republic of Ireland. It was set up following a public meeting on Thursday the 22nd of August 2002 and is operated by a voluntary committee, which is elected on an annual basis.
The Mayo Peace Park and Garden of Remembrance, remembers and commemorates the Mayo military men and women who died in worldwide conflicts, on UN service and Gardai in the course of their official duty within the state.
9 soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on the memorial.

Private Patrick Deane. 34645. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment,
formerly S/4/018241 R A S C. Son of Annie Deane (nee Rowan), of Belmullet,
Co. Mayo, and the late John Deane. Killed 28 March 1918. Aged 25.
Born Kilmore Ewis Mayo (Ireland), Enlisted Belmullet, Resided Co. Mayo.

Private Thomas Duffy, MM. 8875. 8th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of the late John and Mary Duffy, of Liscosker, Kilkelly, Co. Mayo. Killed
11 July 1916. Aged 38.
Born Great Ayton (Yorks), Enlisted Aldershot, Resided Kilkelly (Co Mayo).
Commemorated Pier and Face 3 A and 3 D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
Private Michael Forkin, G/52236. 23rd Battalion Middlesex Regiment,
formerly 45227 the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John and Mary Forkin, of Swinford,
Co. Mayo; husband of Bridget Forkin, of 21, Haffron St., Stockton-on-Tees.
Killed 24 March 1918. Aged 38.
Born Swinford (Co. Mayo), Enlisted Richmond (Yorks), Resided Stockton (Durham).
Commemorated Bay 7, ARRAS MEMORIAL.
Private John Lavin. 20918. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Died
23 April 1917.
Born Swanford (Ireland), Enlisted Middlesbrough.

Private James Macken.201889. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed
15 September 1916.
Born Castlebar (Co. Mayo), Enlisted Northallerton, Resided South Otterington.

Private Joseph O'Boyle. 17515. 10th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of Mary and John O'Boyle, of Co. Mayo, Ireland. Killed 18 October 1915.
Aged 39.

Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, formerly 5390 the Yorkshire
Regiment. Son of John and Mary O'Hagan, of Lislacagh, Swinford, Co. Mayo.
Killed 26 August 1918. Aged 33.
Born Swinford (Co. Mayo), Enlisted Thirsk.
Buried WARLENCOURT BRITISH CEMETERY.
Private James Phillips. 250681. 1st/6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry,
formerly 30620 the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 14 April 1917.
Born Charlestown (Ireland), Enlisted Middlesbrough.
Commemorated Bay 8, ARRAS MEMORIAL.
Sapper Michael Regan. 82680. 174th Tunnelling Coy. Royal
Engineers, formerly 8861 the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Anthony and Margaret
Regan, of Ballyglass, Charlestown, Co. Mayo. Killed 1 November 1915. Aged
38.
Born Charlestown (Co. Mayo), Enlisted Wigan (Lancs), Resided Charlestown (Co.
Mayo).
