The Memorial Plaque inside the Church of All Saints, Lydd, includes one soldier of the Yorkshire Regiment, - Private H G Balchin. Beside the memorial are two crosses which had marked the graves of two soldiers when originally interred. The cross on the right was that of Private Balchin's grave.
Beneath Private Balchin's cross at the time it was photographed is a poppy wreath on behalf of the Submariners' Association, - obviously somewhat incongruous for that particular cross but relevant to other names on the memorial.

Private Henry George Balchin, 33754. 7th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, formerly M/88207 Army Service Corps. Son of George and Matilda Balchin, of 1, Kimburn Villas, Lydd, Kent. Killed 13 November 1917. Aged 19.
Born Haywood Heath (Sussex), Enlisted Lydd.
Buried POELCAPELLE BRITISH CEMETERY.
