The First World War Memorial in St. Augustine's Church, Kirkby-in-Cleveland, commemorates 15 men who lost their lives in the First World War. The memorial is a brass plaque attached to a wall, close to the pulpit. Of the 15 men on this memorial, 7 served with the Yorkshire Regiment.

Three of the Yorkshire Regiment men are also commemorated on family headstones in St. Augustine's Churchyard. where a photo has been taken of such a headstone, it is shown below.

In addition to the First World War Memorial, there is a plaque commemorating those who lost their lives in the Second World War. Of interest here is that men serving in the Green Howards (the official title of the regiment from 1920 onwards) are referred to as serving in the Yorkshire Regiment! A photograph of this memorial is shown below.

In the church there is the Battlefield Cross of Major Clive McDonnell Dixon. A photograph of this Battlefield Cross is shown below.


Private Arthur Leonard Atkinson, 79930. 4th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, formerly 28466 Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John and Elizabeth Atkinson, of 2, Busby Cottages, Stokesley, Yorks. Killed 8 October 1918. Aged 21.
Born Busby, Enlisted Stokesley, Resided Stokesley.
Buried MASNIERES BRITISH CEMETERY, MARCOING.

Private John William Dowson, 203088. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. S. J. Fawcett, of The Holme, Great Broughton, Stokesley, Yorks. Killed 4 May 1917. Aged 20.
Born Rosedale (Yorks), Enlisted Stokesley, Resided Great Broughton
Buried MONT HUON MILITARY CEMETERY, LE TREPORT.

2nd Lieutenant John Fawcett. 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Robert and Louisa Fawcett, of Lowlands Farm, Yarm-on-Tees, S. Yorks. Died 8 May 1918.
Buried VOORMEZEELE ENCLOSURE No.3.
(Also commemorated on a family headstone in the churchyard, - see photo below).

Private Thomas Spencely Myers, 38181. 6th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of Mrs. F. E. Myers, of "Bon-Lea," Great Broughton, Stokesley, Yorks. Native of Great Broughton. Killed 14 August 1917. Aged 29.
Born Broughton (Yorks), Enlisted Stokesley, Resided Great Broughton.
Buried YPRES TOWN CEMETERY EXTENSION.

Private John Wilfred Richardson. 60513. 9th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 18 October 1918.
Born Bransdale, Enlisted Stokesley.
Buried ROISEL COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION.

Private Frederick James Tate. 200763. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of James Thompson Tate and Amelia Tate, of 38, Colwyn Avenue, Dewsbury Rd., Leeds. Killed 9 October 1917. Aged 18.
Born Leeds, Enlisted Northallerton, Resided Leeds.
Commemorated Panel 52 to 54 and 162A, TYNE COT MEMORIAL.

Private Clarence Elwyn Wilson. 10904. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Joseph Percy and Louisa Wilson of Cam House, Chop Gate, Bilsdale. Killed 10 August 1915. Aged 23.
Born Harome (Helmsley, Yorks), Middlesbrough, Stokesley.
