The Isle of Lewis War Memorial consists of a tower, erected on a hilltop on the northern outskirts of Stornoway. The memorial plaques were removed from the interior of the tower due to the effects of water ingress, which made the tower unsafe to enter. They are now mounted on blocks of Lewisian gneiss, arranged in a part circle outside and below the tower.

The memorial itself can only be approached on foot, either from Stewart Avenue (off Macaulay Road, the A857 to Barabhas / Port Nis) or Memorial Avenue (signposted from the A859 to Tairbeart).

The memorial commemorates the names of 1151 men who fell in the First World War and 376 in the Second World War on the 23 bronze plaques. The history and details of the memorial are comprehensively dealt with on the "Faces From The Lewis Memorial" website, who generously permit re-use of their material.

Three soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.
