The First World War Memorial in St. Lawrence's Church, Gnosall, records the names of 52 men who lost their lives in the First World War. Amongst these names is that of an Officer of the Yorkshire Regiment, Bernard Bocking. His older brother John Webb Bocking served in the KIng's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry as an Officer, and also lost his life in the war.


2nd Lieutenant Bernard Bocking, MC. 12th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, attached to 11th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the Rev. J. C. and Mrs. Sarah Bocking, of Gnosall Vicarage, Stafford. Killed 21 August 1918. Aged 20.
