Great Ayton Cemetery. (5 Commonwealth War Graves from both World Wars). One soldier from the Yorkshire Regiment, and one Green Howard from World War 2 are buried in the cemetery.

There are also two family headstones which commemorate Yorkshire Regiment soldiers killed in the First World War.

  Private Joseph Nichols Baines, 3456. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John William and Mary Jane Baines, of Mount Pleasant, Great Ayton. Died at home 9 May 1917. Aged 21.

  Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Reginald Steel, DSO, MC, TD.21923, Green Howards Regiment. Son of William and Agnes Steel; husband of Nancy Steel, of Great Ayton. Died 19 August 1941.

Private Charlesworth Grayson, 13142. 9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Isaac and Sarah Ann Grayson, of High St., Great Ayton, Yorks. Killed 9 November 1915. Aged 21.
Born Ayton (Yorks), Enlisted Middlesbrough, Resided Great Ayton.
Buried X FARM CEMETERY, LA CHAPELLE-D'ARMENTIERES.

The inscription on the headstone reads
IN LOVING MEMORY OF ISAAC GRAYSON, DIED 7th APRIL 1937 AGED 81 YEARS.
AND HIS BELOVED WIFE SARAH ANN, DIED JUNE 15th 1941 AGED 81 YEARS.
ALSO CHARLESWORTH GRAYSON
SON OF THE ABOVE, KILLED IN ACTION 9th NOV. 1915 AGED 21 YEARS,
INTERRED CHADPELLE-DE-ARMENTIERES FRANCE.

Private George Hodgson, 11366. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 7 August 1915.
Born West Rounton (Yorks), Enlisted Stokesley, Resided Great Ayton.
Commemorated Panel 55 to 58, Helles Memorial.

Also commemorated was his brother, James;-
Private James Hodgson, 3637, 1st/1st, Yorkshire Dragoons Yeomanry (Queen's Own). Son of James and Jane Ann Hodgson, of Kirklevington, nr. Yarm-on-Tees, Yorks. Killed 20 December 1915. Aged 20.
Buried ABBEVILLE COMMUNAL CEMETERY.

The inscription on the headstone reads
IN LOVING MEMORY OF JAMES BELOVED HUSBAND OF JANE ANN HODGSON, DIED JULY 16th 1927 AGED 75 YEARS.
ALSO OF THE ABOVE JANE ANN, DIED MARCH 17th 1932 AGED 77 YEARS.
ALSO OF GEORGE, SON OF THE ABOVE, KILLED AT DARDANELLES AUG. 7th 1915 AGED 22 YEARS.
ALSO OF JAMES, SON OF THE ABOVE, KILLED IN FRANCE DEC. 20th 1915 AGED 26 YEARS.
