The War Memorial at Castle Eden, Co. Durham

The Castle Eden War Memorial is located on the Stockton road at the entrance to Parklands, just North of the village of Castle Eden.

The memorial is a cross on a two-stepped base and octagonal plinth with a Sword of Sacrifice in the centre of shaft. Attached to the front faces of the plinth are four commemorative / dedicatory bronze olaques.

30 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War, and 5 in the Second World War. Full names and the regiments served in are shown.

1 soldier who served in the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorila.

Private William Christopher Thubron, 202067. 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of W. H. and A. M. Thubron; husband of M. D. Thubron, of The Foundry, Castle Eden, Co. Durham. Killed 23 July 1919. Aged 33.
Born Castle Eden (Co. Durham), Enlisted West Hartlepool, Resided Castle Eden.
