The War Memorial for Billingham is a wall with scroll feature pediment and classical pilasters. Three plaques on the wall bear the names. Angled seats are at each side of the wall, with a stepped approach for the laying of wreaths.

137 names are commemorated as haing lost their lives in the First World War.

Of the names commemorated, 24 soldiers served with the Yorkshire Regiment.


Lance Corporal Richard William Adams. 10438. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Adams, of Stockton-on-Tees, Co. Durham. Died 3 August 1915. Aged 19.

Private Thomas Nichols Archer. 13421. 12th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John Jones Archer and Harriet Ann Archer, of 10, Young St., Haverton Hill, Durham. Native of Middlesbro', Yorks. Died 17 June 1918. Aged 38.
Born Middlesbrough, Enlisted Middlesbrough.

Private Robert Britton. 39469. 14th (2nd Barnsley) Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment. Formerly (24058) Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Ellen Britton, of 4, Lowthian Terrace, Port Clarence, Middlesbrough. Died 2 July 1917. Aged 22.

Born Stockton, Enlisted Richmond, Resided Stockton.

Private John Carr. 13138. 9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late Owen and Bridget Carr. Native of Middlesbro', Yorks. Died 10 June 1916. Aged 33.
Born Port Clarence (Middlesbrough), Enlisted Middlesbrough.

Private Thomas Carr. 7910. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late John and Margaret Carr. Died 22 October 1914. Aged 28.
Born Cowpen Bewley (Middlesbrough), Enlisted Richmond (Yorks), Resided Port Clarence (Middlesbrough).

Private Matthew Connolly. 201675. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Died 22 September 1918.

Private Frederick Copeland. 16273. 7th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mr. F. and Mrs. E. A. Copeland, of 1, Railway Terrace, Haverton Hill, Middlesbrough. Native of Stockton-on-Tees. Died 19 September 1915. Aged 19.
