The First World War Memorial in Bethnal Green is not a memorial sculpture or cenotaph as such, but comprises three windows and a Book of Remembrance in the Library.

Three stained glass windows commemorate those who lost their lives in the First World War. The central window depicts the winged figure of 'Peace', flanked by two smaller side windows depicting the figures of 'Manhood' and 'Motherhood', set within a venetian-window surround.
A Book of Remembrance stands in front of the window in a glass and wood case.

1122 names are recorded in this Book of Remembrance according to the Imperial War Museum's website listing War Memorials. However, the London WW1 Memorial website lists 2156 names of those from Bethnal Green who lost their lives in the First World War. This website provides details of the regiments served in and dates of death for each name.

Of the above 2156 names, at least 7 served with the Yorkshire Regiment. For the purposes of the Yorkshire Regiment Remembrance website it is assumed that the 7 names are also found in the Book of Remembrance in Bethnal Green Library.
