The Communal Cemetery is at the south-west end of the village of Bailleulmont, on the road to La Cauchie (D1); and in the east corner of it, to the right of the entrance, is a plot containing the graves of soldiers from the United Kingdom.

The graves in the British plot were made by Field Ambulances and fighting units in 1916-18.

There are now over 30, 1914-18 war casualties commemorated in this site. The cemetery is unusual in that the graves are marked by stones made Locharbriggs sandstone, rather than the more usual Portland stone.
Amongst the graves are those for four soldiers who were executed, and seven graves for soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.

We are extremely grateful to Chris Cosgrove (<trainscpc@aol.com>) who has generously provided the photographs on this page.

In the photo the tag attached to the flowers at the bottom of the gravestone says that he is one of 'The Pardoned'. However, the adjacent grave is that of Private William Hunt, who WAS executed for desertion. It is therefore very likely that the flowers, and the tag, have been moved from the adjacent grave.
