The First World War Memorial plaque in St. Anne's Church, Ambergate, commemorates 22 men who lost their lives in the First World War. Amongst these 22 men was one soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.
We are very grateful to Chris Preston & Richard Clarke of The Derby and Derbyshire War Memorials Project for sending the photo of the above memorial for use on this website. They also forwarded a news item published in the Derbyshire Courier on 13th November 1915 in which the Yorkshire Regiment soldier is mentioned. The news item confirms this soldier's former association with the Midland Railway.
Lance Corporal Harry Walton. 7924. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
Brother of Mrs. Annie Clarke, of Hademore Crossings, Whittington, Lichfield,
Staffs. Killed 25 September 1915. Aged 31.
Born Trinity Tamworth (Staffs), Enlisted Derby, Resided Chelleston.
Commemorated Panel 44 and 45, LOOS MEMORIAL.
(He was a Labourer in the Way & Works Department at Ambergate Station.)
