The War Memorial for Almondbury is a hexagonal cross surmounting a four-stepped hexagonal base and plinth. The memorial is located outside All Saints' Parish Church at the junction of Fenay Lane, Westgate and Northgate.

The names of those commemorated are inscribed on tablets set into a curved wall behind the cross. The names of those who died in the First World War (108) are inscribed on 5 slate tablets, and those for the Second World War (46) are inscribed on 2 stone tablets. A victim of a recent conflict, Captain Lisa Head who was killed in 2011, is also commemorated.

6 of the names commemorated are those of men who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.


Lance Corporal Arthur Armitage. 29126. 7th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas William and Mary Jane Armitage, of 30, Smithy Lane, Moldgreen, Huddersfield. Killed 22 July 1917. Aged 24.
Born Moldgreen (Huddersfield), Enlisted Huddersfield, Resided Moldgreen.
Buried DUISANS BRITISH CEMETERY.

Private Willie Armitage. 25449. 13th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Albert and Jessie Armitage, of 28, South Rd., Gorton, Manchester. Killed 21 October 1918. Aged 24.
Born Huddersfield, Enlisted Huddersfield.
Buried GLAGEON COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION.

Private Arthur Holt, 29007. 8th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Holt, of Almondbury, Huddersfield. Killed 22 October 1917. Aged 26.
Born Huddersfield, Enlisted Huddersfield, Resided Paddock (Huddersfield).
Buried LIJSSENTHOEK MILITARY CEMETERY.

Private William Lodge, 38169. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lodge, of 7, Learoyd St., Leeds Rd., Huddersfield; husband of Hannah Lodge, of 287, Leeds Rd., Huddersfield. Died 10 October 1917. Aged 34.
Born Huddersfield, Enlisted Huddersfield.

Private Frank Leonard Rowe. 43598.
4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 110492 87th T R Battn. Son of Stephen and Eliza Rowe, of 9, Wormald St., Almondbury, Huddersfield. Killed 9 April 1918. Aged 18.
Born Huddersfield, Enlisted Halifax, Resided Huddersfield.
Buried CROIX-DU-BAC BRITISH CEMETERY.

Private James Sykes. 29160. 7th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. Mary Sykes, of Penistone Rd., Fenay Bridge, Huddersfield. Killed 13 May 1917. Aged 26.
Born Almondsbury (Yorks), Enlisted Huddersfield.
